Bespoke Illuminated Shelving Display for NEXT

A flexible display system designed by Dalziel & Pow for one of the UK’s best-known retailers.

Working alongside retail design specialists Dalziel & Pow, Unibox manufactured a bespoke illuminated shelving system for NEXT, combining premium materials with discreet integrated lighting and a highly adaptable display solution.

The wall-mounted display was built around a black steel framework with deep timber shelves and glass display shelves, creating a clean, architectural backdrop for premium footwear and accessories.

Rather than lighting the products from above, integrated LED lightbars were concealed within the shelves themselves, directing light back onto the merchandise. This approach keeps the light source hidden while delivering even, glare-free illumination that enhances the products without distracting from them.

A key feature of the system was its integrated power distribution. The electrical supply was engineered directly into the steel framework, allowing shelves to be repositioned without rewiring. Each illuminated shelf connected using a short plug at the rear, enabling staff to move displays quickly while maintaining a clean, cable-free appearance.

The result is a display system that combines the permanence and quality of bespoke joinery with the flexibility required for modern visual merchandising.
